Encouraging Imagination
The Goal:
The Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission provides essential supportive services to low-income families to help them gain economic independence. The NKCAC Head Start program is an early childhood education program that provides preschool services to children of low-income families and children with disabilities.
The MKSK Environmental Graphic Design team was asked to create an established and playful identity for Newport County Kentucky's developing Head Start Center through environmental graphics and signage.I lead the concept development and creation of the environmental graphics, focusing on creating an environment that would engage children while also aligning with the the NKCAC's core values: community, education, and connection.
Environmental Graphics
We developed a concept that focused on the imagination with the aim to place real children into imagined environments. This was done through the combination of of photography featuring children in play and learning environments, whimsical illustration, and bright swathes of color.
I created a series of graphics using illustrations and photography to be located throughout the hallways of the preschool and an additional graphic to be used in the reception area, focusing more on the connection between children and their parents and the services the Head Start Center provides.
Elements of these graphics were then used for window graphics at the Boone County NKCAC Head Start Center.
